"Dirt Nap" is one of those songs that just came out of thin air. I wasn't intending to write a song, I just started humming a little melody. Then 24 hours later, I was in the studio recording it, which only took about 45 minutes from start to finish. This song is unique because it only features vocals and drums/percussion, which is a very primal combination, and because it's in 7/8 timing. To me, "Dirt Nap" feels like a funeral procession marching through some dirt road near the bayou. It's simple, succinct, and a quirky little tune to throw in the mix.
lyrics
Fall at your feet, kiss off the dirt, blood caked cold
Filling up a big hole inside my soul, inside my soul
Left me for dead, swallowed you whole, crumbling bones
And I'm bleeding out slow, got no control, got no control
My, my, my girl... Where did you go?
Out deep past all the broken headstones
Stuck in the cold, stuck in the cold
Whisper a prayer, bask in the glow, of that light that I barely got to hold
Lost my way home, lost my way home...
