about

"Gravedance" is a song that was written piece by piece over the years. The main chorus riff is one that I had been messing with for quite some time, and the verse riff was from an unfinished song I had almost abandoned. I changed both parts to be in the same key, and worked out some of the transitions, resulting in this final version of the song. Vocally, as with "Crooked Spine", i wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try something a bit grittier, a bit more raspy. "Gravedance" really came together with the inclusion of Adam Walter's flute, which he did on a whim, and Scott Zschomler's classical guitar work.

lyrics

And in the depths we swim alone, caressing all the emptiness
And flesh will give away to bones, slow dancing in the dark abyss
The veins are dry of blood and tears, but filled with guilt & shame & pride
We're breeding whispers born of fear to blindly run into the tide

And all this time I've wasted, falling back asleep when I should stay awake
But oh your... Your siren song, it calls to me
'Cause in my dreams we're breathing, I don't wanna wake up
To another moment where you're just another memory

And in the caverns of the deep, my secrets lay, awaiting light
But dawn is not the harvest reaped, there's not a single shore in sight
And out of GRACE and into Hell, I flood the cracks surrounding me
I'm sinking deep into that swell, a ghost inside an empty sea

And all this time I've wasted, falling back asleep when I should stay awake
But oh your... Your siren song, it calls to me
'Cause in my dreams we're breathing, I don't wanna wake up
To another moment where you're just another memory
