"Keepsake" was written fairly quickly over the course of some jam sessions with Kali Dancel. The lyrics came from an old poem I had written many years ago, locked away in one of my journals until I stumbled upon them and realized they could fit with the song. Eventually, Kali and I worked out some of the kinks, changed some of the lyrics, and solidified the final version of the song. What's unique about "Keepsake" is that is doesn't have a snare drum or any cymbals. All of the bright highs come from percussion and Kali's vocals. The best part of this song is by far Kali's vocal performance, the rest is just a bluesy-jazzy canvas.
lyrics
Come inside, follow me to the depths of your soul
You know I tried, forgive me, and I'll do as I'm told
Holding on to the chance that you could look at me
See the person I once was, see the one I could become
Such a fool I became, I let you go, tried to walk away but now I know
What it is to bleed...
Gonna try this one more time, 'cause I lost my way without you
There's no peace without you
Someone told me love is everything that we cannot see
Is there room for me? Or have we kissed for the last time?
You're such a sight for sore eyes, you bring me to my knees
And when you move, I move too, so do as you please
Holding on to the part of you that's pulling me closer to what I can't see
Stuck inside a memory... Everyday's the same what can I do?
Try to break away but I find you in every corner of my mind
Gonna try this one more time, 'cause I lost my way without you
There's no peace without you
Someone told me love is everything that we cannot see
Is there room for me? Or have we kissed for the last time?
